The latest innovation from the world leader in high-performance rubber soles.
When Vibram founder, Vitale Bramani, invented the first rubber soles for mountaineering boots in 1935, it was the beginning of a revolution. Now 75 years later, Vibram is still known around the world as the undisputed leader in soling technology for a wide range of quality performance footwear products. Vibram manufactures more than 34 million soles annually for more than 1,000 premium footwear brands worldwide.
FiveFingers is the latest example of the relentless commitment to research and product innovation at Vibram. Industrial Designer, Robert Fliri, first proposed the idea of FiveFingers footwear to Marco Bramani, grandson of Vibram founder Vitale Bramani, who immediately embraced the concept.
What started as a concept turned into a barefooting revolution.
Bramani and Fliri developed the first shoes then showed the concept to Vibram USA president & CEO, Tony Post. As a former collegiate runner, Post quickly became a firm believer in the benefits of natural running* and fitness training. He discovered that Vibram FiveFingers were the unique solution to the knee pain and soreness he was experiencing when running.
Soon, they collaborated with the full Vibram team to position Vibram FiveFingers® as a performance product for running, fitness and outdoor sports. FiveFingers not only encouraged a more natural forefoot strike during running, but also allowed the foot to move and work in a completely natural way, while providing grip and protection over a variety of surfaces.
Discover the Alternative®: A healthier footwear product.
And while we do love our Vibram FiveFingers®, we don’t believe it is the only footwear you will ever need. There are many times when you need the protection and security of a shoe or boot. Like all things in life, there is a balance, and Vibram FiveFingers® provides a healthy alternative to traditional footwear. Wearing FiveFingers for fitness training, running, water sports or just for fun will make your feet stronger and healthier—naturally.
*Running in Vibram FiveFingers requires a significant increase in lower leg and foot strength. A gradual transition is critical to avoid overuse injuries. For more information on making a safe transition please refer to our Running page.

The TOMS Story
TOMS Shoes was founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie, inspired by a trip to Argentina where he saw extreme poverty and health conditions, as well as children walking without shoes. That’s when he recognized the traditional Argentine alpargata shoe as a simple, yet revolutionary solution. He quickly set out to reinvent the alpargata for the U.S. market with a simple goal: to show how together, we can create a better tomorrow by taking compassionate action today.
To realize this mission, Blake made a commitment to match every pair of TOMS purchased with a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. “I was so overwhelmed by the spirit of the South American people, especially those who had so little,” Mycoskie said. “And I was instantly struck with the desire — the responsibility — to do more.”
Giving
During its first year in business, TOMS sold 10,000 pairs of shoes. Blake returned to Argentina the following year with family and friends and gave back to the children who had first inspired him. As of April 2010, TOMS has given over 600,000 pairs of new shoes to children in need through our giving partners around the world. TOMS now gives in over 20 countries and works with charitable partners in the field who incorporate shoes into their health, education, hygiene, and community development programs.
TOMS’ giving partners are made up of NGOs, charities, and non-profits already established and working in the countries in which TOMS gives. Their expertise guides TOMS to give new shoes responsibly, making sure there aren’t adverse socioeconomic effects, and to ensure that sustainable giving is possible. Giving shoes to the same children on a regular basis is the idea upon which TOMS was started, and is what truly improves the lives of children and their communities.
The TOMS Movement
The TOMS movement was started by young people, and they continue to be a huge driving force. With Campus Clubs and internships, compassionate young people are getting involved with TOMS like with no other brand. To keep their thumb on the pulse of the movement, many TOMS supporters stay connected with the active TOMS Community on Facebook and Twitter.
Enthusiastic college students were also responsible for getting the first One Day Without Shoes off the ground in 2008. One Day Without Shoes is the day in April when TOMS asks people to go without shoes to raise awareness of children growing up barefoot and the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. It’s grown far beyond college campuses, and in only its third year, people of all ages got involved — in 2010, over a quarter of a million people went barefoot and over 1600 barefoot events took place globally.
Shoes and More
In addition to the alpargata-inspired Classics, TOMS offers several other styles. Cordones, the TOMS you can wear with or without laces, as well as the Botas, are designed for both men and women. Stitchouts for men, the Wedge and the Wrap Boot for women, and Youth and Tiny TOMS for children are also available, as well as many vegan-friendly styles for all ages that use no animal byproducts. TOMS.com also carries t-shirts, hats, and other items that are also matched with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One.

Hi, we’re Sanük. We’ve been around since July, 1997 when Jeff Kelley started making sandals out of inner tubes and indoor-outdoor carpet. 1998 marked our first full year of operations. While we’ve progressed into semi-proper footwear company (uh-oh), Jeff’s spirit of innovation still serves as the backbone of our little brand. Today, we strive to make products that are as much about funk as they are about function. We’ve found our sandals are happiest when they tread the road less traveled – so we design ‘em accordingly.
Because “Sanük” is the Thai word for FUN, our name is also our mantra.
Our goal is to provide creatively inspired yet thoughtfully designed products for the global outdoor community…mostly because we’re part of it.
Headquartered in Southern California, we are an eclectic little family hailing from Santa Cruz, Seattle, Cardiff by the Sea, the Philippines, Colombia, Hong Kong, and even Papua New Guinea. With your support, we continue to grow and now have distribution across the United States and in over 50 countries throughout Europe, Asia, South America and Australia.
Sanük sponsors a diverse group of professional athletes ranging from surfers like Donavon Frankenreiter and Dave Rastovich to rock climbers like Chris Sharma and Randy Leavitt. Their impact on our brand culture has been profound as we deliberately partner with athletes known as much for their style and charisma as their specialized talents. Like the products we design, our roster of athletes is truly “superfunktional.”

Committed to Foot Health for Three Generations
Socrates once said, “When our feet
hurt, we hurt all over.” No one
understands this better than the
Schwartz family who, for three
generations, has spearheaded
unrivaled innovations in pain-relieving footwear and foot care
products through their Teaneck,
New Jersey-based company,
Aetrex Worldwide, Inc.
Founded in 1946, Aetrex is a $60 million dollar family-owned corporation widely recognized as the global leader in pedorthic footwear and foot orthotics. Originally known for the landmark development of arch supports and medically-oriented footcare products, followed by numerous innovations in the over-the-counter insole market, Aetrex is now on the fast track toward major industry and consumer recognition in the U.S. and throughout the world. The company’s innovative new lines of fashion-forward high performance sport, dress and casual footwear for men and women, are creating a high level of industry “buzz” – and have arrived just in time to appeal to a massive, aging Baby Boomer generation that will no longer settle for “your grandfather’s footwear.”
Although footwear is a major Aetrex focus, the company has also pioneered an industry-altering technological innovation, the iStep, its patented foot scanning technology for both the retail and medical communities. Aetrex developed the technology in order to help consumers identify their arch type, shoe size and pressure points (known in the pedorthic industry as the “3 Essentials”) and to custom select the ideal footwear and orthotics for their feet. Launched in 2002, iStep is easily the leading digital foot analysis system, and is offered as a free service to consumers at more than 4,500 locations throughout the world.
Aetrex also owns and maintains the world’s most popular foot health website – Foot.com, which hosts more than 300,000 visitors per month and was named by Yahoo! as the best health care site “below the knee.”
Gaining a Foothold on the Market
Aetrex (a derivation of Ae-Treks, meaning “One Journey”) creates products that support the belief that each of us is on a personal journey – literally – on foot. Aetrex counts over 30 board Certified Pedorthists among its employees (by far the largest number of staff pedorthists working at any footwear manufacturer), who work to design the company’s footwear and train retailers to meet consumers’ individual footcare needs.
Combining advanced biometric technology with the introduction of fashion-forward, innovative designs, Aetrex recently launched some of the most exciting, comfortable and successful footwear lines in its 61-year history. In early 2007, Aetrex rolled out the Essence Collection for women, a line designed to combine both high-end, appealing styling with innovative comfort and customization features. Six months later the company added the Gramercy Collection, a men’s dress/casual line that combines sophisticated design with numerous comfort and biomechanical benefits.
Meanwhile, the company’s line of high performance athletic products has been gaining ground in the specialty running and performance markets. In addition, Aetrex’s unique line of socks with copper sole technology has been clinically proven to help prevent bacteria, fungi and odor in the sock while improving skin texture and appearance.
A Family Affair
Paul and Charles Schwartz founded the company under the name Apex Foot Products in 1946 after the two brothers had been working in a shoe store and spending spare time trying to solve Paul’s own problem with aching feet. From early on in the company’s history, they worked with educating associations such as PFA (Pedorthic Footwear Association) to brainstorm designs and materials for over-the-counter arch supports that would help people with complicated foot-related conditions.
In 1966, Paul’s son Richard joined the company and made it his mission to maintain the focus on pedorthics, education and medical integrity. At the same time, Richard created a number of innovative consumer products and built new, expanding sales channels.
During the next stage in the company’s development, Apex introduced many pedorthic modalities and materials that are still used in the foot orthotics market, such as: Ambulator Therapeutic Footwear (1970), Plastazote (1971) and Thermocork (1975). The groundbreaking Lynco orthotics line was introduced in 1979 as the first over-the-counter orthotic line designed in enough variations to provide comfort, balance and support for each arch type – low, medium and high.
Today, Apex, which was re-named Aetrex Worldwide in a major rebranding effort in 2005 to reflect its expanding product lines and global reach, is led by Richard’s three sons. Larry Schwartz (40) serves as CEO, Evan Schwartz (35) as president, and Matt Schwartz (33) as Vice President of Sales. Richard Schwartz recently celebrated his 40th year in the company and remains as Chairman.
Aetrex has just completed its 12th consecutive year with double-digit growth and is now on the cusp of a major entrance into the consumer market on a worldwide basis. The company employees over 180 people at their New Jersey headquarters and their unique product line is distributed throughout the world on six continents. In addition, Aetrex recently signed former Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms as its spokesperson.
For three generations, the Schwartz family have been responsible for constant innovations in footwear and footcare products and have wielded a growing influence on the market. “Bottom line, we’re the ultimate foot geeks,” says Larry Schwartz, who himself is – of course -- a board-certified pedorthist. “Our styles and technologies have certainly evolved substantially over the years, but we remain committed to my grandfather’s original vision to keep people feeling good on their feet”.

Orthaheel’s innovative approach to foot health is recommended by Dr. Andrew Weil, internationally-recognized pioneer of integrative medicine, and supports his philosophy of health and well-being from head to toe.
Dr. Weil recognizes that when your feet are in pain, life is miserable and you are less likely to be active. He advocates walking as one of the best forms of exercise and offers a few tips to help maintain optimum foot health and overall well-being:
- Biomechanical problems can lead to pain and injury. To start, make sure your feet are properly supported and aligned for optimum foot function.
- Wear proper footwear for each activity.
- Inflammation is the cornerstone of the body’s healing response. Pay attention to and seek medical attention with prolonged or persistent signs of inflammation.
- Walk. Move. Live.
Andrew Weil, M.D., donates all of his after-tax profits from royalties of Orthaheel product sales directly to the Weil Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting integrative medicine through training, education and research.
